Remagen

The bridge (or what is left of it) over the river Rheine at Remagen.
A historic site from the 2de world war. The Rhein is a wide, and fast flowing river. A very strategic landmark, as it is difficult, if not impossible to cross using a makeshift bridge.

Near the end of the war, Hitler ordered all the bridges over the Rhein to be destroyed in order to stop the allies. This particular bridge was the only one left intact. Both sides advanced toward the bridge, one to destroy it, and the other to keep it in tacked. The Allies were successful in defending it, and thus could advance to the other side.
