Friendly people

Boating offers views that are wonderful, and certainly different than what is observed from a car. However boating is much more than that, and that is meeting new people.

Ever since we have come to German ports we have found the people extremely friendly and helpful. But sometime you meet people that are absolutely interesting and uplifting. This was the case when we met Anni and Horst Eckstein.
Anni and Horst are shown on their boat.

Horst build the boat (a catamaran) himself. He told us it took 4 years, and every available free minute that he had to complete her.
we had the pleasure of a tour through the boat, and the detail and engineering that went into it is absolutely amazing.

Horst will turn 80 years on his next birthday. It is not polite to talk to a lady about her age, however we assume that she is not too far behind Horst.
Even though they both face some health challenges they are up beat, happy, and enjoy each others company.

Having traveled extensively on their catamaran which was completed in 1976 they were a wealth of information on local waters. Not only did they travel on the Rhein and it's con-tributaries they were in the Mediterranean three times.

We will ever treasure meeting Anni and Horst and our lives have been enriched because of it.
