The monastery at Hora.

Wednesday Aug 28th we left the north end of the Island and cruised to the south end to the town of Katapola.
The island is 30 km long and only 800 meter wide at the widest part.
So it was a leisurely cruise from one end to the next.
We had lots of time to take a look around Katapola, so we again rented a scooter and took off.
One of the places to see here close to Katapola is a monastery close to the town of Hora.
This is an amazing building built high above the see on the side of a cliff.

From Patmos to Amorgos

Arrived in Amorgos Tuesday Aug 27th

When we arrived at the dock in Amorgos there was not much room as many fishing boats were tied up on the dock. However we found a place on the end of the dock and a local fisherman helped us to tie up.

We arrived approx. 14.30 and were told that the fishing boats would leave about 15.00 hour.and sure enough, one by one they left for work.

The monastery build in honor of the apostle John

 Entering the Monastery
A look down to the court yard from the belfry
 The belfry
A look down to the town below.
 Inside the monastery
A view from the lunch place just down from the Monastery.
Typical Mediterranean windmills!
We have arrived in Greece and are ready to explore Patmos.
When you are in Rome you do as the Romans do, and when you are in Greece you do as the Greek do.
And that is go by "scooter"
So here we are off to the monastery build in honor of the apostle John.

On the way up to the monastery.
The monastery was build, not at the exact place where John was imprisoned, but at the highest point close to the  place he was imprisoned.
The view from up at the monastery is astonishing.
Below "Skala" the main town in Patmos.

A view of the bay of Skala.

On the way up to the Monastery

A topical walkway (stairway) up to the next highest level (street)
of the town

Aproaching Turkey (Patmos)

Skala, the main town on Patmos is coming in sight
So we have to fly the  "quarantine" flag until we are checked into Greece.
You would think that on a small space like on a boat you would be able to find things easy, however our Quarantine flag which is a solid yellow flag is nowhere to be found.
So the next best thing has to do a "shammy"

Properly checked in and flying the Greek flag off our starboard antenna.

Leaving Turkey

Friday afternoon Can  (the owner from Yacht works who serviced the boat ) came on board with two of his technician for a test drive to make sure that all the systems on board worked the way they should.  The test drive went very well and I believe Le reve is ready to take us further into the med.
We got the paper work done for checking out and thought we were good to go. However Yacht works send two of their men to the boat around 16.00 hour. We had no idea what they wanted as the language barrier did not allow this. Soon we realized they were there to polish all the stainless steel on the boat before they would let us go. They were there till after 19.00 hr before they were satisfied that the shine on the stainless measured up to the quality Yacht works has come to be known for.
So we stayed in Didim for one more night and set sail just after 08.00 hr on Saturday morning. Destination Patmos Greece.

Arrived in Didim

Yesterday (Aug. 21) we arrived in Bodrum at 13.30 hr
Just before we landed the pilot announced that the temperature was 35 deg. so nice and warm.
We need a new starting battery for Le reve and it will not be here till tonight.
This morning we realized that there was something wrong with the head (toilet) and what was needed is to install some new parts. I guess after sitting for more than a year some of the rubber grommets (duck bills) were not functioning anymore. Also we went up town to do some provisioning.
Now as soon as the battery is installed tomorrow morning the people from Yacht works will go for a test run to make sure that everything is performing correctly and after that we will be on our way. Leaving Turkey and entering Greece.
No pictures this time!
