On rout to Willemstad

Unfortunately our guest had to leave from here. As I mentioned we had wonderful weather, our guest told us they usually have good weather when they go on holidays, and this time was certainly no exception. However they left, and so does the good weather!!!

The next day we left with overcast skies, and scattered showers.

We pass by "Dortrecht" (left pict.)
And close to Dortrecht, in the Hollandse IJssel, enormous flood gates that can be lowered in case of extreme high water.
This floodgate is actually the first of a series of locks and dams, called the "Delta works"
The "Delta works" were started after a fall north easterly storm in 1953 pounded Holland, and caused 150.000 acres of Zeeland to be flooded. Close to 2000 people lost there lives.
