Our first stop in France"Thionville"

We had a hard time finding a place to dock (not enough water)
Finally we asked this " Bike and Barge" boat if we could go along side and tie up to them.  This was OK with the captain of Merlijn , a Dutch Bike and Barge operator.
Bike and Barge is where you can bike to the next stop, or stay on board for the day, your choice.

The group of bikers in the bottom picture are from Merlijn. They caught up with us later in the afternoon.

                                                                                                                                                                  We are on our way to Metz France and see that the grape harvest is starting.

The weather is not to nice, (Thursday Sept 30th)  however later in the week things are supposed to improve.

Locking through is going realy well today. Every lock we get to si ready to lock us through.
So it was with this lock, and I made a comment that the we really would make good time today.
However things changed for us in this lock. We cot in OK, however the exit door would not open, and we were stuck in the lock for about one hour.

For the next 35 km we will have Luxemburg on our right, and Germany on our left. After that we will be in France.

But first it is time to take a break, and hop on a train to go visit the Dislich's

Saarburg falls.

Saarburg attracts a lot of visitors to view the falls that run right through the city. Again, like so many places along these rivers, very interesting and unique.

Fall colors start to appear.

It has been just short of a week that we came up the Saar and everything was still green. On our way back we saw evidence that fall is on it's way.

It was a rainy day when we left, so we decided to continue all the way to Saarburg, only 11 km from where the Saar flows into the Mosel. We came just over 80 km, and navigated 5 locks.
